Report |
On August 3rd it was once again time for Chris. My friends and me had already arrived some days before to Freiburg and so we could go to the event place early that morning. We arrived at Bad Krozingen and stopped straight next to the park. The stage wasn't hard to find and some well known faces were around already. There was still much time left to the beginning of the concert, so we made a little walk in the park and then settled down in a cafe with a perfect view to the stage. While we were sitting there Susan-Jane (Chris's daughter) and her friend passed by and, of course, George was running around everywhere in a hurry. Then the fun started.....soundcheck, yeah!!!! At first Jens had to prepare the stage, then the band came up and Chris followed them. Under the shining sun Chris, wearing sunglasses, played nearly the whole Growing-Years-Medley and also tried to sing Break Away but some lyrics problems made it end early ;-) As Chris and the band wanted to leave they had to give some autographs before saying “see you later”. The time till the concert went by fast. The opening act entertained us with songs of e.g. Tina Turner & Joe Cocker. This band was quite good, not such a shock like other times. Afterwards, it was finaly the time for the one and only... Mr.Christopher Ward Norman (as he called himself this way that night)! He rushed up on a stage and knocked us out with his presence and charm. His shirt was black but he was shining like a star. The music program was fantastic like everytime. From Smokie classics like I'll Meet You At Midnight, Lay Back In The Arms Of Someone, Needles And Pins and the Rock medley with Sledgehammer, The Growing Years, Midnight Hour, My Sharona to the new songs like All Day All Night, Right Time Wrong Place, Turn Right Turn Wrong... He played something for everyone's taste. The show was brought to perfection by jokes of Chris. This time to our regret without Rock'N'Roll the concert was over much to fast, but for the great finale Chris knelt down on stage and then “sang” his “...ohh the good life, full of fun, seems to be the ideal...” and made our hearts jump up high once again. In a house next to the stage was a dressing room and Chris and the band took a rest there afterwards. After a while Chris left the building. He was the first one and came out without any secret. So millions of autographs were written and hundreds of pictures were taken. As he drove away the band came out too but only Geoff got all the attention. Dorino passed by the crowd and shouted “Geoff Superstar!”. This was the end of an overwhelming evening with great music and the most charming entertainer in a whole world. |
