GIVE US A WING!
As you can see from the photo, Smokie's Alan Silson has a very unusual medallion that he always wears around his neck.
"An elderly auntie of mine died some time ago, and left an old jewellery box," he told me. "We were looking through it when I found this. At the time, I didn’t really know what it was, but I took a real fancy to it, so I bought a chain and decided to wear it like this."
Since then, Alan hasn't gone anywhere without the medallion — but it was only a few weeks ago that he finally discovered what it was!
"One day, I was travelling along in a bus in Blackpool when I noticed that the old lady sitting next to me was wearing one, too!" he said. "The actual design on it was slightly different, but otherwise it was practically identical".
"Anyway, I started talking to her, and it turned out she knew all about them. She told me that they were made from butterfly wings, and they're over two hundred years old!"
