Smokey stay away from the Smoke
by Donald Bruce
The Smokey atmosphere is a very pleasant one for Smokey, four lads from Bradford who have made as big an impact as any other newish group this year. They've been around for seven years as The Elizabethans and then as Kindness, but they're new as Smokey, a name given to them only a few months ago by top song writers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. They've also written all Smokey’s records, and Mike has produced all their albums and singles.
The first Smokey single, "Pass It Around" wasn't really passed around, but their second, "If You Think You Know How To Love Me" got to No. 4 for Alan, Chris, Terry and Pete, and really put them on the magic map of hits.
ALBUM
It also established Smokey as one of the most sought-after groups in the country – TV, tours, cabaret.
Coming up now is their new one, "Don't Play Your Rock‘n'Roll To Me", another Chinn and Chapman number, taken from their new album, out in October, called "Smokey – Changing All The Time."
High, high hopes are held out for "Don't Play", for which a lot of radio and TV plays have already been earmarked. The boys, not unnaturally, see it as a potential No. 1.
SOLID
They still stay in Bradford and refuse to move to London, which is par for the course these days for groups not based in the musical Big Smoke. And, like most Yorkshiremen, they're stolid, solid professionals, with a great belief in their own ability to stay where they are.
On top – young Smokey.

Donald Bruce
Первый сингл Smokey, "Pass It Around", так и не был «передан по кругу», но их второй сингл, "If You Think You Know How To Love Me", добрался до 4-го места и действительно поместил Алана, Криса, Терри и Пита на волшебную карту хитов.
Сейчас выйдет их новая пластинка "Don't Play Your Rock‘n'Roll To Me", еще одна песня Чинна и Чапмена, взятая из их нового альбома, который выйдет в октябре под названием «Smokey – Changing All The Time».
